Pax Project
São Paulo International Biennial | 1983.
Interactive Video Installation
A project by: Artur Matuck and Melanie Carr
This project is intended to connect young people in order to stimulate creative activity towards peace making. They are inheriting the world and its woes, and we must provide them with the best tools for communication and conflict resolution. Through global friendships they will learn about their peers and develop respect and understanding for different cultural traditions.
The PAX project will be focused on the Arab-Israeli conflict. Young people from around the world will be invited to send art works, poems and letters, destined to promote peace-making between communities of the Mid-East. A worldwide network built upon telephone systems and computer networks will facilitate interactive audio, visual and textual contact.
Nodes for exhibition and telecommunication art events are planned for the Children's Museum of Pittsburgh, USA, the University of Sao Paulo, Brazil, the Ben Gurion University of the Negev, in Beersheba, Israel and Istambul, Turkey.
The Project can be synthetized in a series of phases:
(1) Network formation - April, May 92;
(2) Intercommunication - June, July 92;
(3) Exhibitions and Peace Exchanges - August 92;
(4) Documentation - September-December 92;
(5) Peace Book production - January-April, 93
We believe that the energy necessary to overcome
political barriers may well come from the hearts of our children.
PAX, a higher resolution!
